5 Legacy Principles
Legacy isn’t just about being remembered fondly. It’s about leaving a part of yourself behind after you pass from this earth. Whether we leave stumbling blocks in our wake or stepping stones that guide and bless future generations is up to each of us. Determine to be an example of faithfulness and use these five principles and affirmations to help you pass on the gift of a godly legacy.
Principle #1 - I Will Make a Commitment
Passing forward a strong legacy requires intent and commitment.
- I will examine my life—gratefully acknowledging my strengths and bravely facing my weaknesses.
- I will determine the type of legacy I want to pass forward and will take steps every day to build it.
Principle #2 – I Will Walk in the Spirit
The strength to build a godly legacy doesn’t all depend on you. God desires, even more than you do, that your legacy has eternal significance.
- I will invest time and energy in my relationship with God.
- I will seek His will for my legacy.
- I will react in faith to the challenges of aging—setting a positive example for those who walk after me.
Principle #3 – I Will Lift Up My Soul
The soul is made up of the mind, the will and the emotions. With all your soul, you can determine to leave a powerful legacy.
- I will teach others and I will learn new things.
- I will maintain loving relationships.
- I will tell or write my life stories.
- I will pray for others and creatively bless them in the name of the Lord.
- I won’t be afraid. I will be glad of each new day and smile at the future.
Principle #4 – I Will Honor the Temple of the Holy Spirit
Taking good care of your body is an act of spiritual worship. Commit to honoring the Lord by honoring His temple.
- I will seek God about the food and drink that are best for me.
- I will be active and I will enjoy the sleep of the beloved.
- I will pause each day and breathe deeply—acknowledging that the breath of the Almighty has given me life.

- I will live in peace with God, others and myself.
- I will forgive others and I will ask for forgiveness.
- I will show others how to face the challenges of life and how to trust the One who conquered death for us all.
