An NCBAM Partnership
NCBAM is committed to helping North Carolina’s aging maintain their independence and enjoy quality lives! One of the greatest risks to the health of aging adults is from the improper use of medications.
Factors that contribute to medication mismanagement include poor communication between patient and healthcare providers, the use of several prescriptions, the use of internet pharmacies, and an inability to take medications as prescribed. Red Bags can help!
Benefits of Red Bags
- Red Bags make it easy to store all non temperature-sensitive medications in one place.
- Red Bags are insulated so that temperature-sensitive medicines can be taken to doctor visits or on other short trips.
- Emergency responders in North Carolina are trained to look for Red Bags when they enter the homes of aging adults.
- Red bags include a usage brochure with a My Med List medicine chart.
Red Bag Goal
When shared with healthcare professionals, Red Bags prevent overmedication and reduce the risk of prescribing conflicting medicines.
Red Bag Order Form
As part of its Priority #1: Prevention initiative, NCBAM wants to get potentially life-saving Red Bags into the homes of as many aging adults as possible. Distributing Red Bags can be a valuable ministry opportunity for North Carolina Baptists to impact the lives of the aging 65 and over in their churches and communities. The Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) of the NC Department of Insurance can provide help in choosing a prescription plan. Medicare recipients can also apply for Extra Help with prescription medicine costs.
