Tis the Season

Posted by Wendy Minton Edwards in category on January 14, 2012

We often hear the phrase, "tis the season" during the holidays, referring to "tis the season for celebrating," or "tis the season to be merry," or other such sentiments.  Yesterday I saw a cute sweatshirt displaying a new thought, at least for me, "tis the season for freezin."  I agreed, being that the wind was freezing cold.  May I suggest another "tis the season" thought; that is "tis the season for Senior Adult Gatherings."  This week I've already had the joy of gathering with a group of senior adults from the Riegelwood community and a group from Glen Royal Baptist Church in Wake Forest.  I'm also looking forward to meeting with the seniors of Greens Cross Baptist Church in Windsor.  I've been thrilled to witness Christian senior adults being moved by the plight of unfortunate seniors in their own midst; seniors of which they were unaware.  As one aging adult said, "We would have already done something if we had known about him."  And I've been delighted as Christian seniors, many of which with problems and needs of their own, have feely responded.  Several seniors in the Riegelwood community volunteered to work together to assist a neighbor.  Most all of the Glen Royal seniors volunteered to do something.  Even 94 year old Joyce said, "I'll do anything I can for as long as I can."  And she can do quite a lot!  At 94 she still drives locally, prepares delicious meals, and cleans her own, very large, home.  Yes, "tis the season" for senior gatherings and I'm enjoying many of them in eastern NC.
